Excitement for Spring: Tuesday Greens #30

by Becky Elmuccio on May 7, 2013

Welcome to Tuesday Greens #30

I spent the weekend weeding the raised beds, mowing the lawn and trying to make sure that all of the rabbit nests were empty before proceeding with said mower. We have a rabbit family who loves our forsythia bush and when we trimmed it back this year, they set forth upon the rest of the backyard and have been busy at creating new generations of their family. It’s been great for Tomato to see the bunnies at different stages, but pesky on yard yard maintenance.

This weekend, we will be hitting up several farms and farmers markets to buy our tomato and pepper plantlings in order for me to spend Mother’s Day in the garden. I am excited to see what varieties we will pick up. Tomato has developed an affinity for bell peppers, so I have a feeling she’ll choose a few of those to come home.

How are all of your gardens coming along? We always use Mother’s Day as our start date for putting things outside. This helps us to avoid losing any summer producing plants to a random frost. Do you have a certain start date for your area?

Essential Oils & Ticks

Last week’s most popular post was Essential Oils & Ticks from Jo’s Health Corner. Ticks are definitely something that South NJ worries about, so I will be checking out her advice on how to deal with them. I look forward to checking out your posts for this week and please take a moment to look at each other’s work. Have a great week and good luck in your gardens!

Hmm maybe I’ll start my planting on Mother’s Day, too. Good idea!

What did you put in the ground?

I need to check out the tick and essential oil post. I meant to tell you that I picked up a tick removal tool at Bartram’s Gardens. It goes on a key chain. I’ll show you on Friday if you don’t see it in the store today.

I didn’t have a chance to stop in the store. Guess that gives me a reason to head back!
